Popular beliefs about Christmas you should know

Christmas songs and carols

Who sings carol songs and ‘Santasizes’ when it’s not actually Christmas? No one.

By popular belief, it is unlucky or somewhat bizarre to chant Christmas carols when it is months away from Christmas. The reason is not far-fetched. Sit on your couch and get your mouth wailing ‘Santa Claus is coming today’ at mid -April and you’ll understand just how weird it sounds.

Carols are meant for Christmas, and in most cases, they tend to emphasize only what happen at yuletide. So when you sing them, you must be sure you’re singing at the right time.

Christmas trees and ornaments

It is quite commonplace to find Christmas trees littering the streets once Christmas is close. No doubt, they show the families are ready and everyone is willing to get their Christmas balls rolling. From artificial wreaths and garlands down to LED lights, there are several ways ‘celebrants’ style their trees to make it look appealing.

Christmas Food

This might be somewhat superstitious, but still, it is a belief. Somewhere, people believe your wishes come true if they are made while you’re stirring some Christmas pudding. If every person in the home takes turn to stir, then that would mean good fortune. Young ladies looking to get married can stir to hit fortune, same as the young men.

But on the whole, nobody cuts into the Christmas cake before Christmas and leaves it till Christmas. It is believed that that might bring bad luck and cause things to go completely south.

When you eat apples a night before Christmas, you are considered lucky and are likely to reap all of the benefits that come with good health.
